Carl Larsson ”Mowing”, watercolour 1905

Carl Larsson writes: ”Now the timothy, clover and all of those delightful small meadow flowers that have insinuated themselves among the crops will have to bow their heads, fall and quietly die as Brunte draws straight lines with that infernal equipment. Johan cannot remember seeing such poor hay before. The snow was too light during the winter, so the roots froze and then the long spring drought.

The land belonged to the farm Spadarvet where Johan was Carl Larsson’s manager. In the background, to the north you can see Carl Larsson-gården, the log flume and the church spire.
